Next to Excelsa, Liberica is the fourth largest coffee bean type in the world. Even Liberica and Excelsa are listed on the third and fourth, they are still identified as the two lesser-known species of coffee beans, as they make up at less than 8% of the world’s coffee production.
Liberica coffee is also grown primarily in Southeast Asia as Excelsa, and it is particularly in the Philippines. It is a rare and unique coffee variety, accounting for only a small percentage of the world's coffee production. Liberica beans are larger and more irregular in shape than other coffee beans, and they have a distinctive aroma that is often described as smoky, fruity, and floral. The flavor of Liberica coffee is also unique, with a bold, woody taste and a slightly acidic finish.
Both Excelsa and Liberica coffee beans are not as widely known or available as Arabica and Robusta beans, but they have a devoted following among coffee connoisseurs who appreciate their unique and complex flavor profiles.
